UMTS Modem setup

Has anyone else got any experience using a 3G UMTS modem as the uplink in Endian?  I have had this working before on a version 2.2 box but dont remember the exact settings   
I am now trying to get a Huawei E220 to work on a 2.3 box.  It seems to recognise the modem as in serial port selection it show ttyUSB0 and ttyUSB1 (these aren't there if you disconnect the modem).  I read a note in the manual that the modem is ttyUSB1 not 0, as this is the flash memory drive I think (have tried both anyway).  Choose, UMTS/HSDPA and move to next page. 
I am not too sure about the Baud rate so have left this at the max and default setting of 460800. 
Enter the APN: internet and user:web and password: web
These are the right settings for Vodafone UK.  I know that the SIM/modem work as when I connect to windows laptop, everything works fine.
Ok rest of settings and reload.
Just says connecting on dashboard uplink status and light on modem just flashes - should go solid with a data connection.

Most annoying thing is that this setup with the same modem worked before so I am wondering if it is broken in 2.3.

Any suggestions, advice, anyone using a different make/model of UMTS modem sucessfully would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem (more or less).
My modem is HUAWEI E169.
I'm in Italy and my PSTN is ibox.tin.it and user/pass are both blank.
Problem is I should dial "*99#" before I can talk with the remote and I see no way to enter this in the endian user interface.
What am I missing?
Needless to say the very same modem works flawlessly under plain ubuntu (jaunty).

Hi Mauro,

I got mine working after a bit of playing about.  My problems where due to a combination of issues - namely locked modem and PIN required.  Misinformation and me just being a bit stupid!! 
Firstly, when you do network setup, do you get /dev/ttyUSB0 and /dev/ttyUSB1 as choices?  If not then probably your modem doesnt have drivers installed.  I have another iCON 225 modem which I was trying and when I plug that in, I dont see those USB options.  If you do, then I think the endian recognises your modem and should probably work. 
By PSTN I guess you mean APN?
Also perhaps try a lower baud rate.  I set mine to 9600 first time when it worked but have since put back up to highest at 460800 and still connects fine, so probably just a red herring 
I dont think you can enter *99# in the interface but you may be able to edit it directly in /var/efw/modem/default/settings  I haven't tried this and not even sure if it is the right place but found it when trying to get mine to work - maybe worth a shot.
