Title: USB Network Cards
Post by: gtjr92 on Monday 07 September 2009, 04:35:28 am
I need to add a 3rd nic to my server, I have no PCI slots everything is on board.
Can I use a USB network adapter with endian? Is there on brand that works better than others?

Thanks

So far I have tried 2 different USB NIC's and neither of them worked. One was detected in the Endian GUI but said it was "Unknown" and the other one did not even show up. If you find one that does work, please let me know as well.
Current specs that I am running Endian Firewall on:
Core2Duo 2GHz
4GB of Memory
80GB 7200RPM HD
2 NICS - Broadcom and D-Link
Thanks,
Garrett

D-Link USB 10/100 - DUB-E100

it's an unknow device (u can reconize it with mac adress), but it works well (tested on 2.2 and 2.3 rc1)

good luck

OOOHHHH!! I actually had one that detected as eth as per dmesg/messages log.
However, whenever i tried to work on it, it never did anything. Id love to get those usb cards working, currently im getting stuck cause my onboard isnt supported and ive run out of pci slots :(

Okay I got a mcs7830 which shows up as eth3, however, i am unable to get it to do anything above and beyond just being recognised, I am essentially unable to use it.

Hi,

Does anyone know which USB network cards are supported in ver 2.5.1+ ?

I have a USB network card which shows as UNKNOWN, it seems to work, the web interface detects it and can configure it as eth1 RED zone, but it keeps resetting the firewall frequently (4-5 times a day).

Thanks

Raff

I have a Trendnet usb Ethernet card and I have no problem.
Everything runs perfect.
Maybe it is the drivers of your card.
