tried installing 2.4 last night - weird problem

I'm currently using Smoothwall Express 3.0 for my firewall, but I'd like to give Endian a go and see how I like it.  I downloaded the 2.4 respin.iso last night and tried to install it in a virtual machine using VMware Player 3.1.1.  It seemed to install successfully, but it seems like it skipped the setup for some reason.  I tried installing 4 times to see if I missed something, but i didn't. It formats the partitions and installs the software, asks me to configure the Green interface,  and then at the end I get the message where it says it will take me to the setup screen where I can configure the network cards, change passwords, etc and my only option is to select the "OK" button.  As soon as I do that, it reboots and it boots to a menu where I have the choices of opening a terminal, changing the root password, changing the admin password, or reset back to factory defaults.  Where was the setup?  I tried to select the option to change the root password and I couldn't because it prompted me for the existing password....same thing for the Admin password.  I never got the option to set these, nor did I see any options to select which card to use with which interface, or to set the DHCP server options.  Is it supposed to install like this?  I'm hesitant to put it on my existing firewall if I'm going to get the same result.

Because you probably don't read correctly the installation process.

Once you set the IP on console, the rest of the installation process is done via Web GUI. From a PC access to http://IPofYourFirewall to end the setup process.

I am having the same problem.  

I read the on screen installation instructions and they clearly say that you can configure the firewall *after* completing the setup.  The problem the OP and I are having is after the installation completes we are not given the chance to run setup.

As far as using the web GUI from another PC goes, I can't even get a ping response let alone access it with a browser.  Probably because I couldn't run setup to configure the NICs...

Does anyone have any suggestions?

after installation the system reboots from the hard disk.

it is at this point that it prompts for the IP address.

problem is, what card it assigns it to, and did it find any NIC on your hardware.

once the base NIC is assigned you can start the web gui and restore a previous backup after a few prompts.

go into the shell prompt in the menu, and run ifconfig -a

if that did not find anything try lspci and see if it identified any of your NICS

maybe the nics you are using are not being recognised.

miniitx boards tend to come with an odd realtek nic that often gets identified wrongly by the kernel and does not work.

try with a PCI card if you have not already.

When the system reboots I am not prompted for the IP address.  Like the OP I am given 4 choices.  I am never given a chance to setup. 

I ran the shell commands that you suggested and it appears that the NICs are recognized.

One of the cards (the Ethernet Pro 100) is PCI card.

Does anyone know how I can manually setup the NICs?

Ok, I determined what I was doing wrong.

I found an article on ehow.com about setting up Endian Firewall.   In step six it mentions that you have to use trial and error on each NIC to determine which one it is using as the Green interface. 

When I plugged the ethernet cable into the other NIC I was able to ping and ultimately use a web browser to finish the setup.
