Hello,

I want to use the SMTP proxy of the EFW 3.0.5 as a smart host for my internal mail server. I have setup smart hosts this 'manually' before with postfix and through it should be very easy with EFW but apparently it's not. I'm getting "relay denied" on out-bound emails. I'm really puzzled by this and appreciate any help.

What I experience is this behaviour:

mail from: someone@external.domain
rcpt to: someone@own.domain

works, but

mail from: someone@own.domain
rcpt to: someone@external.domain

causes a 'relay denied' error. How can this be? As long as with the recipient or the sender is from my own domain it has to relay the email. That is the most basic function of a smart host.

Thanks for any support.

Hi jorg,

Did you added your domain to SMTP -> Incoming domains?

Hello,

yes I did.

Incoming (internet -> EFW -> mail server) works. Just outgoing (mail server -> EFW -> internet) produces "Relay Denied". I use the same email addresses for both test cases. I only revert To and From.

Hello Jorg,

I know that smarthost is only for outside emailservers.
I have my email server in DMZ and works well without using smarthost.
I have also an emailserver in GREEN and also works well without using smarthost.

Hello,

I have tested this setup, too. It works.

However, in my setup my internal servers can't connect to the internet. I have to go through a smart host. I know to configure this correctly on postfix. Is there a way to SSH into EFW as root so I can make the changes myself?

Hello,
You can ssh or winscp if you configure efw to accept incoming on ssh port.
Also from efw webgui

Anyway, I don"t think it's a good idea to alter efw.
