I have been getting the folowing every few days.

ERROR
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The requested URL could not be retrieved
While trying to retrieve the URL: <INSERT ANY WEB ADDRESS HERE>

The following error was encountered:

Unable to forward this request at this time.

Sorry, you are not currently allowed to request:
<INSERT ANY WEB ADDRESS HERE>
from this cache until you have authenticated yourself.

This request could not be forwarded to the origin server or to any
parent caches. The most likely cause for this error is that:
The cache administrator does not allow this cache to make direct connections to origin servers, and
All configured parent caches are currently unreachable.

Your cache administrator is webmaster.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It does not matter what Web site, it gives the same error except for the <INSERT ANY WEB ADDRESS HERE> part shows the address for the site.

From what I have found, this has something to do with the antivirus filtering. I have the proxy set up as transparent, using the default profile. If I turn AV scanning off then back on it resolves the issue temporarily (about a week).

Is anybody aware of a permanent fix for this?

Thanks,
Yancey Jones

Wow, am I the only one experiencing this or are these user forums just dead?

The forum seems dead.

I understand that support cost, but even the users don't support here, which is very awkward.

I have a few questions myself but im just scared to even post them as i don't think i'll get an reply.

I would help you out but i don't know how Sad

That's too bad because I think that overall Endian is a good product. I am also looking at ClearOS and Untangle. However, the last time I used Untangle, the hardware requirements were beyond reasonable and I cannot find information on updating ClearOS without a subscription plan. I am trying to find something for a small office (less than 5 users) that will do the job and I thought that Endian Community was the answer but with this HTTP proxy issue, it is just not cutting it. It is hard to get the end user to understand that the $60 Linksys router just isn't enough these days, especially when they need remote access and email filtering. The job becomes impossible when the price tag goes past $400-$500 (and that cost barely covers a mini-ITX system to run it on).

Try to disable auto updates on antivirus and on Intrusion System, or set it to 1 month.

Does it appear something on /var/log/messages ??

Just ask, sometimes ppl reply.
The worst thing that it can happen is that nobody replies.
But please, be specific and detailed.
