APC UPS shutdown - PowerChute business or PCNS? - and how do I do it?

I want to set up my Endian 4.2.1 firewall to gracefully shutdown as managed by my APC UPS. I could either use
1) PowerChute Network Shutdown (via IP based agent install - needs latest JVM which doesn't look ilike it's in the install and think may add a vulnerability?/conbfig issue due to multiple IP ports?
or
2) PowerChute Business Edition - since I already have a Business edition server and console install - but I'd need to the get the RS232 extender to allow control of multiple servers...
Since option 2 above would be via RS232 I assume it is the preferable option?
Has anyone doen either of the above - any tips?
many thanks in advance
