Title: Using a gateway on different subnet than WAN IP does not work Post by: mdseymour00 on Thursday 25 August 2011, 07:16:09 am Hello,
Our ISP assigned us a /30 subnet and a /29 subnet on a single Ethernet connection, with instructions to use the gateway in the /30 block for both subnets. The /30 block gives one usable IP address (network address, firewall address, gateway address). It is in use on one floor of our building with the Endian firewall using the /30 gateway. I now plan to use the /29 block on a second floor using a dumb switch to split the original Ethernet connection in front of the existing firewall. However, all attempts to assign the firewall an IP in the /29 block and the gateway in the /30 block fails. Do I have to add something to the routing table to get this to work properly? Regards, Mike S. Title: Re: Using a gateway on different subnet than WAN IP does not work Post by: fqureshi on Friday 02 September 2011, 08:31:54 am You have to do routing on your EFW box...
Route all traffic of your /29 block on /30 usable IP which you have assigned as gateway. |
