IMAP Auth for SMTP

I'm hoping someone, anyone will read this and hopefully be able to help me

I've been using EFW for a few years, learnt lots and made many tweaks.

I need now to allow a handful of users with specific needs to log in from outside and send mail via SMTP as they have historically used outlook

I simply cannot get the IMAP auth in the SMTP proxy setup to work

I've been through the documentation for postfix and dovecot to see if i cant make the changes behind the scenes but i'm having problems

any thoughts
