smart issues during upgrade from 2.3 to 2.4.1

Hi All -
I'm hoping this is something simple that I can just force through, but we'll see...
During the efw-upgrade from 2.3 to 2.4.1, something must have gone wrong that I didn't notice at the time. it looked like the upgrade completed except for a hang of several hours at the end of the ssh session - never went back to prompt. I restarted the box from the web gui at that point.
The version remained at 2.3, so I knew something was awry at that point. So I attempted the upgrade again and now, after the initial cache update and package checks, I get:
Committing transaction...
Preparing... #################################################### [ 0%]
error: package efw-dhcpd-2.4.3-0.endian7.noarch is already installed
error: package efw-snort-2.4.8-0.endian13.noarch is already installed
error: package efw-network-status-2.4.9-0.endian27.i586 is already installed
Doing a smart update and a smart upgrade has no effect.
Is there a way to force smart to disregard already installed packages and complete the install?
Or am I better off just installing fresh from the burned iso and restoring backup settings?
Thanks for any advice!
