What would you recommend for hardware..? My costumers has 10-80 employees, and all are useing the internet and sometimes VPN, when out of the office. Antivirus, IDP and antispam are turned on. Is a 1Ghz VIA C7 or a AMD Geode LX-800 enough, or do I need to move into a real desktop CPU?

Not sure where you are located but here in the U.S. I tend to use SuperMicro stuff.  Here is a link to what and where I've bought before:

This uses SuperMicro's PDSMA+ motherboard.  Some may say this is overkill, but I don't think the price is that bad and it keeps my phone from ringing.  But I up the CPU to dual core and purchase an extra hard drive to take advantage of the built in software raid 1 (courtesy of mdadm - works like a charm).  I run these with Endian 2.1.2. 

So in summary this provides your customer with Redundant (hotswappable power supplies) and Redundant hotswappable disks via raid 1.  You can even use Nagios to monitor your endian along with the software raid 1 (I've seen a nagios plugin that monitors mdadm raids).  So this allows you be proactive instead of reactive to hardware problems, etc....

I can understand the thing with 2 HD´s... I will find a system that can hold 2 HDs.
But why Dual Core Cpu´s?

I have noticed top running high (using every bit of the CPU) when clam is scanning (via havp).  Try downloading a few files and see for yourself.  It is just my preference since these are relatively .

Most ppl will use endianfw in a production environment, since offices will grow eventually and ppl demand more of their [broadband]connectioin it is wise to use a heavier system from the start.

I have noticed this when havp is useing both my cpu's @100% endian doesn't forward the traffic anymore.

I tried on a VIA C7, but the performance was bad.

I suggest you to go with AMD Geode with 512MB RAM, If size is not an issue, then I would go for a Intel or AMD based decent desktop machine.

It's dead around here because there are only 300 members. Who knows how many are linux experts let alone firewall, iptables, router experts.
