Is NCSA Local Authentication for HTTP Proxy SECURE?

I've set up a school with EFW 2.3 and chances are there's a packet sniffer somewhere on the network that could easily record insecure passwords floating across the Ethernet.

The reason I'm asking this question is because I would hate for a student to get suspended or even expelled for something s/he didn't actually do.

Thanks in advance for your input!  Smiley

PS I've googled quite a bit and even tried searching this website but got the "too few characters in search string" response.
