Title: Custom ACLs with Squid and Endian Firewall Post by: euser4life on Friday 31 August 2007, 07:21:02 am Squid (which is built in to Endian) is very powerful.
There are many things you can do with this proxy server, but to have flexibilty to use it you need to be able to write custom ACL's. For example I came across a challenge where a company owner only wanted certain groups of workers to be able to use the internet at 3 specific times during the day (morning, lunch, and 1 hour after work - people were wasteing too much time surfing :-) yet another group needed full access at all times of the day. You can write custom ACL's to do this via config files, but everytime you reboot those changes would disappear...................................... However here is an add-on thanks to Patricio Bruna <http://clspace.it-linux.cl/clearspace/blogs/pbruna/tags/endian> and also to Igor Mikolic-Torreira for packaging this as an rpm, which can be found at <http://alumnus.caltech.edu/~igormt/endian/extras.html> (along with some other goodies). Hope this helps someone as much as it helped me....
