Title: Content Filter Stopped......

Hi
I have a new install of v2.4 and all seems well apart from the Content Filter which is shown as Stopped in Status. All other services (including Virus Scanner) which should be started are started. I note from previous issues raised in this forum and via Google that this is not an unknown problem but I can't find the answer! A reboot is of no use.
The HTTP Proxy (transparent) is Enabled and on the Content Filter page I have amended the Default Profile as required. But nothing I do starts the Content Filter service.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
:o :o Solved - After much experiment the only way was to keep restarting Content Filter from the console. Eventually it decided to remain started!

Hi, mayb i know how do u restart the content filter in console?im trying to use 'restartdandsguardian' to restart the content filter but it's doesnt work for me.

It is usually better to use the .py versions of the restart scripts, with the debug parameter (-d).
It gives you way more useful info of what's happening.
i.e:
restartdansguardian.py -d
restartsquid.py -d
Check for any error there

I have a 2.4 un-modded. I have only configured the standard GUI settings. I cannot get the 'Content Filter' to start. I have modified the 'default' content filter profile. That's the normal output when you don't have content filtering in use. Sure, you have configured it, but you don't have any rule that actually uses it. Go to Proxy->HTTP->Access Policy and modify your rule to use Content Filtering. If it says " filter for virus", the content filter isn't enable. Change the rule, enable content filtering, save and Apply changes, then the filtering will start working. Output without rules using Content filter: ........

Great reply mrkroket, thank you very much. This solved my problem.
Is it better in fact to add a new policy and set the "filter for using 'content 1'" policy, or to change the "filter for virus" policy. I am assuming that by adding a new policy, they would then both be in affect? Also do I "Allow" or "Deny" based on the policy? I will keep playing with it, and may very well answer some of my own questions, but figured I might ask for clarification.

HTTP Proxy rules are fired one by one, in consecutive order.
If some traffic complies a rule, no more rules are fired. Is either blocked, or accepted, according to that rule.
So no, adding another rule won't give you the same results.
If rule 1 is the standard one with "filter for virus", that rule will catch up all the HTTP traffic, and the second one never will be used.
Then you'll blame that Endian content filter doesn't work, when in fact is a rule config problem.
The idea about rules is give you a lot of flexibility about creating different profiles to different user groups, each one with different internet privileges.
-GroupA uses content filter 1 (GroupA can be defined by IP, MAC, Authentication....)
-GroupB uses content filter 2
-GroupC uses content filter 3 and so on
