Are the rc.x scripts run as would be expected in a traditional linux install?  If so, when are they run in relation to the rc.d/start scripts?  Are they mixed-in by S## ?

I ask, because I'm not familiar with this "start" directory, and all those startup scripts in there apparently reference python scripts, not traditional "start/stop/restart/" bash scripts like I'm used to seeing.
