Title: [DOWNLOAD] EFW Community 3.0 + Hyper-V Post by: Timmeh on Thursday 01 January 2015, 04:30:15 am Hello,
I've been using Endian Community edition for a few years now and always suffered with using the Legacy Hyper-V network adapter (only works at 10Mbits). Thanks to this forum (50chickens) I have built a Hyper-V guest EFW 3.0 Community with a new kernel and support for full Hyper-V synthetic network drivers. i.e. maxing out my data centre connection. I have created a factory default VHD which I will happily provide a download link. Please reply to this thread if you wish to download a copy. Configuration = Hyper-V Guest 2 x vCPU Cores 2GB of RAM 100GB Dynamic VHD 2 x Network Adapter (NOT LEGACY) Test Result: w***w***w.speedtest.net/my-result/4024402569 Thanks, Timmeh Title: Re: [DOWNLOAD] EFW Community 3.0 + Hyper-V Post by: giroinformatico on Tuesday 06 January 2015, 04:02:41 am Hi,

I set your vhd up on Windows Server 2012 R2 and overall it works fine. I have a fairly complex setup with two Red interfaces, one Orange and multiple ipsec VPNs and firewall rules. Once I restored the backup from my old Endian box, it took a bit of fiddling to get all the interfaces back to the way they were, but once this was done, everything else worked fine. A of issues I noticed: 1. Rebooting the VM does not work. After the reboot, Endian hangs at 'Booting Endian Firewall Community release 3.0-devel (3.11.6)' with the cursor flashing underneath 'savedefault'. Powering off the VM and turning it back on works fine. 2. Your VHD is a Dynamically sized, would it be possible to get a static version, say 80GB? 3. Windows logs a number of errors for the network and disk drivers as Endian boots: Networking driver in Endian 3.0 loaded but has a different version from the server. Server version 5.0 Client version 3.2 (Virtual machine ID 61641787-5979-400D-851C-5640B832EC3F). The device will work, but this is an unsupported configuration. This means that technical support will not be provided until this problem is resolved. To fix this problem, upgrade the integration services. To upgrade, connect to the virtual machine and select Insert Integration Services Setup Disk from the Action menu. A storage device in 'Endian 3.0' loaded but has a different version from the server. Server version 6.0 Client version 5.1 (Virtual machine ID 61641787-5979-400D-851C-5640B832EC3F). The device will work, but this is an unsupported configuration. This means that technical support will not be provided until this problem is resolved. To fix this problem, upgrade the integration services. To upgrade, connect to the virtual machine and select Insert Integration Services Setup Disk from the Action menu. I'm no Linux expert, so I don't know if these are significant. Would it be possible for you to document the process involved in creating the VHD, I would certainly like to try this for myself if possible. Many thanks for your work! Pat Title: Re: [DOWNLOAD] EFW Community 3.0 + Hyper-V Post by: Timmeh on Sunday 08 February 2015, 01:33:57 am Hi Timmeh, I set your vhd up on Windows Server 2012 R2 ..... Hello, 1. Rebooting from within Endian or from Hyper-V Manager? Have you tried both do they give same result? I generally don't reboot my gateway very often so wouldn't really have noticed the issue. 2. You can convert the VHD to fixed disk within Hyper-V. 3. The Hyper-V component services are built in to the kernel v3.11.6 which is an "older" kernel and I'm guessing released before 2012 R2. I will look to update them and investigate if the v5.0 Hyper-V components are available for linux. 4. The process is already documented by @50chickens on this forum. http://www.efwsupport.com/index.php?topic=3849.0 Thank you Title: Re: [DOWNLOAD] EFW Community 3.0 + Hyper-V Post by: sota on Monday 09 February 2015, 12:14:30 am Hi Timmeh,
The problem only arises if I reboot from within Endian, othterwise it works fine so it's not a major issue. I had missed the link to @50chickens post, so I may try a newer kernel with his instructions to see how it works. Thanks, Pat Title: Re: [DOWNLOAD] EFW Community 3.0 + Hyper-V Post by: ppelleg on Tuesday 17 February 2015, 12:42:44 pm Hello! I have downloaded and installed your version. This works great except one important thing. I am not able to turn on the proxy (either transparent or non-transparent) When I turn it on, it just stops web access (transparent). When this is set to non-transparent browser states it cannot connect to the proxy. Any idea ? first of all thank you very much for your vhd. I was looking quite often for a hyper-v-solution but found nothing. When I want to start endian, everything is working find, but endian can not find the second nic. It allways shows <eth0>. To my maschine I added two nics for green and red. Not legacy. Do you have a solution for that? best reagrds Title: Re: [DOWNLOAD] EFW Community 3.0 + Hyper-V Post by: Timmeh on Monday 13 April 2015, 07:21:42 pm Hi, first of all thank you very much for your vhd. i've downloaded the VM and it works great, no more latency and ping problems because it fully support Hyper-V NICs however, I also cannot start squid proxy. It simple don't work. Already tried to reset factory settings twice. Anybody got it to run? I saw a reply above stating this is a endian bug and was fixed... if so,how to upgrade the version? Title: Re: [DOWNLOAD] EFW Community 3.0 + Hyper-V Post by: pjakpatryk on Wednesday 20 May 2015, 06:52:39 am Do anyone know a way to install it with legacy network adapters (fresh install) and than add/replace kernel with version supporting hyper-v new/regular network adapters? There is a new beta 3.0.5, I'd like to have fresh installation of it + the right kernel.

But after reboot of the VM I got the same problem again. There is always one nic less than connected. Reset, reboot or migration to another hyper-v did not solve the problem. Do you have a solution? I am Brazilian and not field the English language. I could make the proxy function normally, with and without authentication in AD. My version is the 3.0.5beta1, updated via efw-upgrade -s, but it was not what made it work. Following procedure: 1. Repository Endian (updates.endian.org/3.0.5-beta1/pool/) downloaded the packages: squid-3.4.9-7.endian34.i586.rpm efw-proxy-3.0.47-2.endian17.noarch.rpm ***You can search for these files according to your version of Endian, just browse the folders repository.*** I could not download the packages directly on Endian, always I gave error first downloaded on my desktop and moved to the server using WinSCP. 2. Before it is necessary to delete a folder squid not to give error during install the new packages: rm -rf /usr/share/squid/errors/sr * 3. I installed both using the command: rpm -Uvh squid-3.4.9-7.endian34.i586.rpm rpm -Uvh efw-proxy-3.0.47-2.endian17.noarch.rpm 4. Restart the Endian 5. Enable Proxy 6. But a question: If I'm using an italian version, I have to delete the folder squid not to give error during install the new packages: rm -rf /usr/share/squid/errors/it* or not? I tried to do what you said, but in the home page Endian tell me that Proxy HTTP is On, but ( :-\ ) in the System information page it tell me that the Web proxy is stopped and I can't restart it in anyway... Any suggestions? Title: Re: [DOWNLOAD] EFW Community 3.0 + Hyper-V Post by: beppo on Friday 18 December 2015, 09:29:20 pm Hello all,
