Hello!

I was using the EFW 2.3 but the efw-upgrade destroyed me my current system.
and i have no snapshoot or backup.

so i decided to do a fresh install with 2.4

VM setup:
1 CPU 32bit
512 MB
8 GB Buslogic SCSI
3 Network devices

the installaton process finished without any failure.
but after restart i see only "Grub loading stage 2"
sometimes it offers me to hit any key to continue
i have done this about 10 times now.

i also downloaded the EFW-2.4-RESPIN 2010-05-29 today and it is still the same.

please help

Hi
try to
- set more RAM +1024
- change SCSI controller to test

ONLY use the respin version

Same on Esxi 4.0

Endian 2.3 works fine, upgrade to 2.4 works untill a reboot,
Kernel panic.

Fresh install doesn't find HD for install, i've tried many different setup for the virtual machine
but no way, so i return to 2.3

Bye

Update: fresh installation works setting an EIDE disk.
Some problem with NAT, i will test this now.

i am using the Respin Iso

changed the Ram to 1024MB - still failure after reboot
changed the SCSI device from Buslogic to LSILogic - Installation can't find harddisk: "Harddisk too small"

(i know already that the LSI SCSI does not work with endian 2.3, so i didn't try it anymore)

always the same failure after Installation and 1st reboot:
"GRUB Loading stage 2.."
or
"GRUB Loading stage 2.. Press any key to continue"
the VM freezes and i need to power it off

how is it possible to use IDE devices on ESXi 3.5?
i can't install ESX 4 without a 64bit System

Dont know what to say.

tested 2.4 respin on vmware workstation all default.
got through without issue.

reboot esx?

use vmware workstation and transfer with converter to esx.

i have no vm workstation, only vmware player or server

the strange thing is that i have installed endian 2.3 RC1 on esx about one year ago.

but 2.3 and 2.4 do not...

i go now with 2.3RC1 and keep it until something new come out

if you use vmware server for windows or linux (not esx)
you could try this and convert with vmware converter to esx.

just an idea..

It's me again...  Embarrassed

I have setup a second esx 3.5 box (U5 without updates).
Fresh endian 2.3 + 2.4respin do not run after 1st reboot.

i found a backup of my old 2.3rc1 endian and IT IS RUNNING on both esx mashines.
Update to 2.4 fails again after 1st reboot.
Another fresh install of endian 2.2 / 2.3RC1 / 2.3 / 2.4respin fails after 1st reboot (Buslogic / LSILogic SCSI)
I tested all settings for the VM, even the same setup like the running 2.3rc1 backup does not work.

I know i have installed the VM without any fail last year.... (something strange happens here)

I can't run esx4.0 to test an installation there.
If someone is out there with an running EFW2.4 on ESX4.0, post me the vmx config file, please!

I have installed endian 2.4 respin on VMPlayer3.1 and Server2.0.2 running fine and booting 5 times.
Then i converted the VM to ESX and it failed again...

tomorrow i test it with a VirtualBOX and convert it to ESX (or a real mashine)

regards

thankyou for any help or idea

Hello,

I'm glad you figured it out - did you say yes when the installer asked you whether you wanted to use a serial console?

there was no question to use serial or not...
(or i did not read it carefully)

i disable always unneed stuff on virtual mashines

endian 2.4 running fine on buslogic scsi...
except the network diagrams do not show traffic
