Ok, I've recently started evaluating 2.2 for use as a firewall in an all virtual environment.  My question is with the recent release of virtual NIC driver from Microsoft to open source, does/will 2.3 support them?

Opps, I should note that I'm using Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 (the free downloadable version)

I too am interested in this. Unfortunately EFW 2.3 still doesn't seem to support the 8 available performance virtual NIC's only the legacy NIC's. Hyper-V only supports a maximum of 4 of these but I need 6 so am a bit stuck until I can enable the other 8 'performance' adapters.
