Title: File and print sharing over OpenVPN for roadwarrior
Post by: vikash on Wednesday 25 November 2009, 01:53:01 am
Hi,

192.168.1.1 - EFW
192.168.1.10 - Samba box
192.168.1.50-100 is the DHCP pool
192.168.1.150-160 is the openVPN pool

Im running EFW2.3 and Ive setup OpenVPN in a road warrior (Windows Vista) configuration. Ive also got a samba box on the GREEN network for file sharing. I CANNOT use windows file sharing to my samba box on the GREEN network.

Ping and SSH to BOTH EFW the samba box WORKS fine over the VPN connection but when I try to browse the samba share then it just cannot find it at all. Windows diagnostics says "Windows confirmed that "192.168.1.10" is currently , but is not responding to connection attempts at this time."

Ive switched off windows firewall and also my kaspersky firewall and AV. Also file and print sharing is enabled for that network in windows.

Ive tried several combination by enable/disable of VPN firewall, outgoing firewall and IPS but all with the same result.

Any pointers on how to diagnose this would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Basic network is as below:

OpenVPN client (192.168.1.150) <-----> Internet <------> EFW (192.168.1.1) <------> Samba Server (192.168.1.10)

ping works in BOTH directions to/from Client to Samba

traceroute from client to samba server works with just 1 hop BUT never works when traceroute from Samba to Client!!

Can the OpenVPN client access a Windows file share on another computer that is on the LAN?  Definitely seems like something is being blocked.

Try disabling the Intrusion Prevention System if it's enabled. Worked for me.
Of course, then you have to go into the IPS and tune it more so it doesn't block the packets you need. Might take a while.
