I had an issue with joining a new EFW to an active directory domain and I thought I'd pass along my solution. It comes down to one of two things.

The hostname (host name) and/or the domainname (domain name) under System / Network Configuration / Step 3/8: Network Preferences were either:

1 - Too long
2 - Could not join a domain with hyphens (-) in them.

The current names I have entered that successfully joined the domain are 15 characters (hostname) and 11 characters (domainname). My best guess is that it wasn't able to join the domain with a hypen in the hostname since to domainname is irrelevent to joining the proxy configuration to an active directory domain.
